Sexual Healthcare
Teen Clinic is a prevention-based program that provides education, emotional support, STI testing, and gynecological care for teens ages 12-21, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. The goal of our program is to empower teens to make healthy life choices while reducing the incidences of sexually transmitted infections and teen pregnancies.
The teen clinic offers the following services:
- Gynecological exams
- Access to several methods of birth control
- Pregnancy testing
- Options counseling
- Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Comprehensive sex education
- Support related to safe dating and healthy relationships
- Services sensitive to trauma survivors.
How does a teen get to be a part of the Teen Clinic?
In order to join the program teens first come in for our RAP presentation. This is a comprehensive sexual education presentation that is done on a one on one basis with one of our Clinicians. After receiving the presentation, one of our staff will schedule an appointment so they can come in to receive an exam and testing. After receiving the results of their testing our staff speak with teens about their options regrading birth control and whether or not they would like to begin.
Parents and guardians should know that under State and Federal Law, youth 12 years of age and older have the right to seek reproductive health care without the knowledge or consent of their parents. At Response, we encourage teens to talk with their parents about such issues, but we will always follow the law.
Please take a look at this Fact Sheet that covers Illinois’ laws concerning confidentiality and consent.
